The last time we gave you a recipe for blood orange margaritas they used blood orange infused tequila. This time, we are taking things up several notches and making spicy blood orange margaritas. How will they be spicy you ask? They will have some hot, hot, hot thai chili infused tequila in them.
I had thought that blood oranges were gone for the year up here in Reno. But I was wrong. I found some at my local co-op market. Of course I had to buy a bunch of them.
I think they might be one of my favorite fruits to use in cocktails. They pair well with many different flavors and they bring a beautiful color to drinks.
I didn’t plan on using them with the Thai Chili infused tequila at first. But I did. And it worked. The sweet/tart from the oranges works nice with the heat of the tequila.
When I first made these spicy blood orange margaritas, I rimmed the glass with a cayenne salt mixture.
I found that the salt took away the fruit flavor and made the spice really stand out. The next time I made them, I left off the salt. Much better that way.
The fruit flavor comes through in the front. The spicy heat hits second in the back of the mouth. But it’s not an overwhelming heat. It’s good.
