Most of the time, my drink of choice is wine. The exception to this rule is what has become a Fordeville house specialty and party staple — the Espresso Martini. Because, really, anything that marries my two favorite vices — strong coffee and strong alcohol — is irresistible.
Back in 2004, while on vacation in St. Martin, we had a bartender serve these up and they were sublime. Since then, we’ve been on a quest to replicate his exact blend. My husband, ever the perfectionist, has tweaked and re-tweaked the recipe over the years to get it just right. And along the way we’ve converted many family members and friends into believers.
Fordeville Espresso Martinis
First, wet your martini glass and put it in the freezer for a few minutes to chill it. Then, combine in a shaker:
- 2 oz very strong coffee or espresso
- 2 oz espresso vodka
- 1/2 oz Kahlua
Shake with ice. Serve very cold. Yield: 1 drink. Don’t operate any heavy machinery.
Today’s martini comes from Kim Forde. When she’s not shaking with excitement from drinking Espresso Martinis she can be found blogging at The Fordeville Diaries, on Twitter, and on Facebook.
